Title: A Personal View on AI in Medical Imaging
Bio: Prof. Horst Hahn is Institute Director of Fraunhofer MEVIS Institute and Professor for Digital Medicine at the University of Bremen. He studied physics in Bayreuth, Toulouse, and Heidelberg. After obtaining his PhD in computer science on quantitative medical image analysis, receiving the Bruker Daltonik award, he initiated and coordinated national and European projects on multimodal breast cancer diagnostics. In 2014, he was selected one of Germany’s Digital Heads for his impact on the societal digital transformation. He chaired the SPIE Medical Imaging Computer-Aided Diagnosis Conference in 2020 and was awarded honorary membership of the German Roentgen Society in 2023. Hahn serves on several advisory boards including the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) and the Institute for Clinical Research at Semmelweis University, Campus Hamburg (IKF). His research focuses on the digital transformation of medicine using AI, aiming to increase efficiency, quality, and safety in diagnostic and therapeutic processes. A focus on early detection, quantification, and therapy optimization combined with multidisciplinary data networks form the basis for a new generation of clinical decision support systems and predictive tools in cancer care and beyond.
